Foreground: A sisal plantation sprinkle with protected baobab trees. Background: The Indian Ocean lies just beyond Timboni, in the cluster of trees.

This is the compound of the family I stay with. Notice the huge mango tree. My room is in the back house, all the way on the left.

Me and my best fried Kaniki.

The site of the Kuruwitu conservation. The magic is in the water. The boat was recently donated and is used for ferrying visitors and patrolling the area.

Halima helping lead my yogurt making class.

During low tide local fisherman with walk along the reef equipped only with a sharp metal rod and sack. They use the same crude gear for fishing in the deep sea too.

Megan and Alex visit Caca Cove, my favorite beach in area. We named it that after Alex had an accident there. "Kaka" is brother in Kiswahili, lending the name some wiggle room.

A stream running down Kilimanjaro turns into a waterfall just outside Loitokitok. It's been named "51" by locals.
